To celebrate the centenary of the 1916 Rising, Fotofix has produced a unique range of A3 posters – an ideal gift for any history enthusiast.
Michael Collins was a soldier and politician who was a leading figure in the struggle for Irish independence in the early 20th century. An organiser of considerable intelligence, Collins became financial advisor to Count Plunkett, father of one of the Easter Rising’s organisers, Joseph Mary Plunkett. Collins took part in preparing arms and drilling troops for the insurrection. The Rising would be Collins’ first appearance in national events. When it commenced on Easter Monday 1916, Collins served as Plunkett’s aide-de-camp at the rebellion’s headquarters in the General Post Office (GPO) in Dublin. There he fought alongside Patrick Pearse, James Connolly, and other members of the Rising leadership. Collins was arrested along with thousands of other participants and was subsequently imprisoned at Frongoch internment camp in Wales. Collins began to emerge as a major figure in the vacuum created by the executions of the 1916 leadership. He began hatching plans for “next time” even before the prison ships left Dublin. During subsequent treaty negotiations in 1921, Collins famously said:
“Give us the future .. We’ve had enough of your past .. Give us back our country .. To live in, to grow in, to Love.”
The poster comes with a short biography and is printed to the highest quality. Posters can be posted internationally and are normally dispatched within 1-3 days if in stock.
